FULL-BODY OIL THERAPY
Synchronized Ayurvedic full-body oil massage for deep detoxification, stress relief, and rejuvenation at Kesavadasapuram
Abhyangam (also spelled Abhyanga) is a cornerstone of Ayurvedic preventive and therapeutic medicine. The word "Abhyanga" means "oil massage" in Sanskrit. This therapeutic massage is performed using specific medicated herbal oils chosen according to the patient's Prakriti (body constitution), current doshic imbalance, and health condition.
At Chittattinkara Vaidyasala, Trivandrum, our trained therapists perform Abhyangam using synchronized movements — both therapists work in perfect coordination on opposite sides of the body, ensuring uniform pressure and rhythm. The medicated oils penetrate deep into the tissues, nourishing cells, loosening toxins, and stimulating the lymphatic system for effective detoxification.
Abhyangam is often performed as a preparatory therapy before Panchakarma procedures (Purvakarma) but is also highly valuable as a standalone wellness treatment.
Abhyangam is a classical Ayurvedic full-body oil massage performed by one or two therapists in synchronized rhythmic strokes using warm medicated oil selected for your constitution. It is both therapeutic and deeply relaxing.
Benefits include improved blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, deep muscle relaxation, skin nourishment, joint flexibility, stress relief, improved sleep, and detoxification. It also strengthens the immune system and promotes longevity.
For therapeutic purposes, daily sessions for 7–14 days are recommended. For wellness maintenance, weekly or bi-weekly sessions work well. Our vaidyas will recommend the ideal frequency based on your constitution.
The oil is selected based on your Prakriti and condition. Common oils include Sesame oil (Vata), Coconut oil (Pitta), Mustard oil (Kapha), or specialized medicated oils like Ksheerabala Taila, Dhanwantharam Taila, or Sahacharadi Taila.
No. Abhyangam is fundamentally different from a regular massage. It uses medicated herbal oils, follows specific Ayurvedic marma point protocols, applies therapeutic pressure in the direction of arterial blood flow, and aims at doshic balance and healing rather than just relaxation.
